Shocore - Devil Rock Disco
Scr- Ok heres a band that get's the award for the worst album after such an impressive first hit. I first heard "Bonecracker" and thought wow what a kewl beat. I had to have the song as it kept playing over and over in my head. These guys make you think what Rob Zombie must have sounded back when he first got into the electro rock scene. I have to say what a major disappointment this whole album was. The only thing that came even close to being likable was a track named "stek and chops" which I guess is aptly named since its the only other meat on this album. Definitely go by the single. So what s the name mean? It s taken from the nickname for Terry (sho as in sho nuf), Murray and Cory (Core, misspelling courtesy of local rock writer), White. If any meaning or significance need be attached, it s probably safe to say the name was derived from the creative and collaborative efforts of these two guys. The more this band works together, the better it gets and over the span of about 5 months, they re released DEVIL ROCK DISCO, a 10-song album that critics are calling "alternative to alternative rock, with a touch of rap and enough energy to stave off California s dilemma".

Ill Nino - Revolution Revolucion
Iln- Here comes the storm. Down, dirty, and powerful. The first release "What Comes Around" gets you psyched and waiting to hear more. They definitely exude influences of bands like Sepultura and Soulfly. If this is where metal is hitting a fork in the road and this happens to be one fork , may I say I like! These guys take the hum drum boring away and keep me on the edge itching for more of something different. Give it a try. The New Jersey-based Latin metal sextet Ill Nino includes members Cristian Machado (vocals), Dave Chavarri (drums), Marc Rizzo (guitars), Jardel Paisante (guitars), Lazaro Pina (bass), and Roger Vasquez (percussion). Most of its members are of South American descent, resulting in a type of music that combines crunchy heavy metal with Latin rhythms and lyrics that alternate between English and Spanish. The idea of Ill Nino began when former Pro Pain member Chavarri was touring as an interim member of Max Cavalerra's Soulfly. Once his tour of duty ended and he returned home, he immediately phoned his friends Rizzo and Machado with the idea of forming an original band (to quote Chavarri, "The idea is to be as heavy as possible and as melodic as possible -- with a Latin twist"), with the other members enlisting shortly thereafter. The new group enjoyed exposure via the New York metal college radio station WSOU and began to gig heavily, opening for the likes of Kittie, Soulfly, Snapcase, plus a co-headlining set at the March Metal Meltdown festival in New Jersey. Soon after, the sextet signed to Roadrunner Records, issuing Ill Nino's debut recording, Revolution/Revolucion in July of 2001.

Stereomud - Perfect Self
Stm- A great mix of styles and influences. At times you think this is some heavy hard hittin shit and then the next song is a slower grunge infested ballad. These guys vocals make the show for me. In the track "Steppin Away" is a good balance of vocals, grunge, and ballad. I really liked this tune. The rest of this albums follows up with little disappointment. I have to say I really liked this album as well. Go give it a try. Most of the members of Stereomud (vocalist Eric Rogers, bassist Corey Lowery, drummer Dan Richardson, plus guitarists John Fattoruso and Joey Z) aren't newcomers to heavy rock -- Richardson is veteran of both the Crumbsuckers and Pro-Pain, Joey Z was in Life of Agony, while Lowery used to be in Stuck Mojo. Since the members hail from either New York or Georgia, the quintet split their time between the two states, as they honed their heavy yet melodic sound by playing shows and appearing on the now-defunct TV show Farmclub. Soon after, the band was signed to Loud Records (a subsidiary of Columbia), and 2001 saw the release of their debut, Perfect Self. The debut album employed the services of three different big-name producers: Don Gilmore (Lit, Linkin Park, Eve 6), Rick Parashar (Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains, Blind Melon), and Howie Beno (Ministry, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Sister Soleil) and was mixed by Jay Baumgardner (Papa Roach, Godsmack, Orgy).

Cypress Hill - Stoned Raiders
Cph- Ok you may be saying why Cypress hill, why here. Well even though this as well as many of there older albums are heavily rap influenced these guys still know how to kick out a rockin tune. Enter "Trouble" . Another rap, hard rock influenced jam. I saw this on Mtv and just couldn't get it out of my head either. So, I picked up the album to see what other surprises might be lurking in this album. Guess what? ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ. Only 1 more song with an inkling of rock influence a tune called "Catastrophe". Save your money folks. If you like the rap influenced rock like Linkin Park and others and you heard "Trouble" and were intrigued like me , go by the single. Utilizing a formula that glues creeping funk, heavy metal guitar lines, barrio posturing, and a pro-marijuana stance to hip-hop roots, Cypress Hill sold an impressive fifteen million albums in the past ten years. With the start of the Los Angeles-based outfit's second decade comes Stoned Raiders, which finds the "high-style rhyme bringers" sparking up the same musical bud that kept registers ringing all through the '90s.Getting into "Trouble" early on, a maniacal drum pattern crashes into a crying hard rock riff as producer Muggs builds a roaring forum for B-Real's testimonials. Touting Cypress' musical authenticity, hip-hop and hard rock poseurs alike are warned to step aside, as these "Smoke Out" founders burn into blistering funk-steeped metal rants like "Amplifier" and "Catastrophe." Throughout Stoned Raiders, Cypress Clique members like MC Ren & King Tee and Redman & Method Man guest, adding microphone variety to "Southland Killers" and "Red Meth & Bee," respectively. Meanwhile Kurupt lends his skills to two cuts, including the set's most invigorating track, "Kronologik," which traces the Hill's history from '91 to present against an eerie, piano-plucked hook.

Hoobastank - Self

Hbstk-
Crawling In The Dark, the debut hit from this group just spawns with emtion and a sound all of it's own. When I first heard this song, it made an instant impression on me. I thought here's a new style of rock nd a band that's going to make an impression.I picked up the album and had mixed feelings. The second track is a prime example of this. I hate the soft parts of this songs with a passion, but when the tempo picks up the riffs are incredible and noteworthy. Then i was let down until the album hit track 6 with Better which is aptly titled as that is where the album gets a better turn. The album takes another turn for the worsr until track Hello again which helps to wake you up with some more rock flowing from the speakers.it once again falls asleep yntil the last track Give it Back, which is well what you may want to do if if you dont find one of these 3 or 4 descent songs worth the bucks you paid for this album. All in all in wasnt impressed and would stick to the single.
Assembling in Agoura Hills, CA, in 1994 with Dan Estrin (guitar), Douglas Robb (vocals), and Markku Lappalainen (bass), Hoobastank pursues a distinct place for their intrepid rock conceptions. Discharging influences ranging from the sound of bands like Tool to Faith No More, the California team display audacious themes of alternative pop/rock, powered by distinct pieces of styles like ska and funk, ultimately forwarding fresh solutions for the post-grunge scene. Drummer Chris Hesse became the band's long-awaited fourth element, shortly before the crew started making its first live appearances. Performing at numerous shows during the following years, progressing and instituting a mark of their own within the local underground music scene, the team ultimately managed to conquer a loyal and growing fan legion. In 1998, the squad delivered They Sure Don't Make Basketball Shorts Like They Used To, their self-produced and independently released debut album. Following a three year period certifying their better tunes and gaining a following reaching beyond U.S. frontiers into Brazil to Europe, Hoobastank, the team's self-titled debut on a major label hit record stores in November 2001, achieving important results and significant praise from both the media and the public.

Sevendust - Animosity

Svndt-
The third time is still the charm. Back from the deoth's again with another ass kickin' album is band Sevendust. The first hit single Praise, shows the flow of this album. This album continues with the flow and heaviness we've come to expect from this group. I have always thought that Lajon's vocals have stood out from the crowd and make this a one of a kind group. The album finishes off with a classic tribute to lead singer of the band Snot with a song titled Angel's Son featuring mebers of the band Snot.
The Atlanta-based band Sevendust became one of the rising stars in late-'90s heavy metal, and the band's bottom-heavy riffs assert them as pure metal, but their soulful melodies make their music surprisingly accessible. The band, which is comprised of frontman Lajon Witherspoon, John Connolly (guitar), Clint Lowery (guitar), Vince Hornsby (bass), and Morgan Rose (drums) first appeared in 1995 as Crawlspace, releasing the single "My Ruin" on the Mortal Kombat: More Kombat recording. Shortly thereafter, the group then changed their name to Sevendust, releasing their self-titled debut in 1997. Two years later, they issued Home and played over 800 shows alongside groups like Creed and a gig at Woodstock '99. Their angst-ridden third album, the aptly-titled Animosity appeared in fall 2001 .

Taproot - Gift

Tprt-
Here's aband they mave have prolonged the blow up of their career by turning down a signing by Limp Bizkit's singer and record company owner Fred Durst. It's a story hat has to be heard to be beleived. They turned down an invite to Durst's house and a signing that most would have jumped on but wanted to make it on their own merits and their music. This album has been around for awhile and although not found popularity with the masses has gained a strong underground following. The second track Again And Again was the first release off of this album and rightyly so. It has a sound of it's own and should do well showing the sound and musicality of this group. The album has a style the just seems to work.I enjoyed this entire album and cant say a lot bad about it other than with the right backing it would have went bigger guys!!
Formed late 1997 in Ann Arbor, MI, Taproot emerged from the local underground music scenes of Ann Arbor and Detroit. Taproot blends heavy metal, hard rock, and rap into an alternative rock genre commonly referred to as rap-core. In the spring of 1998, Taproot's four members -- singer Stephen Richards, guitarist Mike DeWolf, bassist Philip Lipscomb, and drummer Jarrod Montague -- self-produced and self-released their debut full-length CD, ...Something More Than Nothing..., which sold over 6,000 copies. It was soon followed by the EP Mentobe. Their underground reputation, built at a grassroots level through touring and their official website www.angelfire.com/mi/colicab, quickly gained them major label recognition.

Diecast - Day Of Reckoning
Dicst-
A band that bring's back rememberances of the early days of Metallica and Slayer. Songs like In The Shadows and Exacting My Revenge have that old scholl double bass throw back of the yesteryears. I personally found the first release SIngled Out a fresh and full powered hit. I would have like this better if more of the songs had a newer style feel to them like Singled out does. Don't take me wrong its not a bad album for those days when other the heavy stuff will do but it has a lot of early remineces that Made me feel like the music was somewhat recycled. Give it a listen if you like the heaviest stuff.
